Technology – a devastating enemy. By Gulied (Dalha)

dalxaAfter performing the prayers, I went Gabas, the shady tree, to take a rest and get in touch with slumber. As always, joke and bantering got increased among the friends. Giggling of Saed Harbi is what I could profoundly remember. Hunger struck me as a result of the tedious hours of teaching on that day. Soon, I looked at the time and gasped. Bilaal inn was my targeted inn to have the dinner there, with my buddy following me.

At the front of the inn, I saw five lads, popular at our village, Shidka, very engrossed. Looking them thoroughly, I knew they were busy chatting on the facebook. They even could not see my wave. I thought they were grieving from the death of their parents – that is, all of them were bowing down on their phones.

Meanwhile, I got into the inn, where I was highly welcomed. Washing up the hands was first to be done. After swerving to the side of the time, I glanced on my right. There were seven men, long hair, nearly two metres high, brown eyes, all busy with chatting. One thing to keep in mind is the chuckling they sometimes chanted.

I sat down on a comfortable sofa. As the waiter came, I asked for a meal. While doing this, I again heard a whisper from my southern corner. I glimpsed and saw a boy calling for the password of the wireless to be told. I could not stop wondering the rapid trend caused by the technology is quite alluring – as it is also causing many disadvantages.

Above and beyond, as a teacher, the developing technology has many negative impacts on the students. As you enter the class, some students are still on the internet. If you turn round to the board, some students are playing the game. If you then penalize them, they will suddenly say, “ We are breaking the boredom.”

Another remarkable impact is that some students do not quit any time even when the teacher is explaining the lesson. They do not concentrate on the lesson. Instead, they try to watch downloaded movies. To do this, they put the mobile phones into silence and sit at the back. Furthermore, some students take their earphones and start to listen to music.

To abridge my points, it is a clear fact that mobile phones are number one distracters of students’ attention. So, teachers should impose a strong penalty any student caught using this incorrectly.  Parents should also follow up the performance of their students.
